'Autumn Leaves' has been a song of parting in my life for quite a while. Heard the Nat King Cole version through a few passings, plus I've been asked to sing in from time to time in karaoke. So, though I know we have a few hours to go before The End has truly reached us, I figured it would be a good time to wax on a bit before this shop closes, and we look forward to the next one.
I generally hate social media. Dread it, abhor it. I keep a LinkedIn account, but that's about as close as I get to touching it. I dabbled on Facebook for all of a month before I completely rejected it. It brings out the worst in a lot of people - the attention-seekers, those who chose to put mouth before brain when addressing things, dreadful levels of incoherency and knee-jerk reaction. And it seeks affirmation of those behaviors.
Here, it has been completely different. We're here as a community to put up something funny, or something interesting. For me, MLKSHK has been like a semi-anonymous gigantic bulletin board, to pin up things about me - what I laughed at, what I cried at, my worries - sort of an emotional SWOT board.
And if that weren't enough, we all shared ours with each other, and we got to agree, to converse, maybe occasionally quibble over things. And there was some level of assurance that it would keep going that way. And that is in no small part to the familiar, familial sense we shared as a community.
I'm hoping that continues with MLTSHP, but it brings me to my closing laments. MLKSHK has become a habit to me, because of all of you. I expect that if some scientist were to care enough to see my physiological reactions to clicking that lovely MLKSHK link on my phone, or the tab in my browser, there is probably some sort of dopamine reaction by now.
Even though I know MLTSHP is around the corner, having to depart from MLKSHK will still leave a gap for awhile, and maybe a hint of grief. Maybe it's not as tremendous, given we've come to the precipe several times, but still, there's going to be a few tears when I click on that tab, and see that 404.
Sorry for the long verbiage. I'll just let Eva speak the rest for me.
My snark hasn't gotten better, but there's only so much ice, water, dirt and creams for that. Here's to 5 years of being jointly entertaining, and to all of you being the best load of internet friends a fairly introverted joker could hope to ever have . Hope there's more to come.
Decided I would commemorate my personal time on MLKSHK with a little reminiscing.
I came in somewhat (I dare say, /fashionably/) late to the party. I think it was @infini that posted this GIF, or a similar GIF of World Order. Oddly enough, it was the first time I heard of World Order, til that point....
